QUOTE
Raphael Lacoste, art director at ubisoft montreal. Used to be a 3d guy back in the day when 3dluvr was the place to be,
then one day he just went "oh feck it" and the next day started painting like that. I'm not even joking.

This was his first attempt at digital painting :

crazy good... the atmospheres is just incredible

@popbot- love it your def improving man biggrin.gif , just like to point out its a night scene ya? their could be more pockets of shadow, electric light doesnt diffuse as well as sunlight i think

@con - needs more glow on the moon! ^^

If you chaps like Raphael Lacoste so much you should also enjoy the work of Albert Bierstadt, an artist who I would say is a massive influence on Lacoste. Bierstadt is one of the most famous 19th century American landscape painters, and in my opinion is only bested by Frederick Edwin Church. Art Renewal site about Albert Bierstadt

F.E.Church is amazing, but have to admit, haven't seen many of Bierstadt's works before. Quite beautiful.

I've got a bit of spare time, and really felt like doing a speedpaint after ages of not doing any. got a photography book today by Gregory Crewdson called beneath the roses that really inspired me to make a pretty image, so if you all don't mind, i'll post a topic.

And the topic is...

Suburbia

Needed a bit of a break from work today so did a lil speedpaint on an old topic we had here, "Beast". I've written down most of the topics so I might be coming with more.

This one took about an hour or so, custom brushes for fire and smoke.

Only about 30 minutes on this one cause photoshopo's gamma was driving me insane, and I hated the picture anyway.
Oh well, better luck next time.

And a 60min one for "Escape"

Attached File  MM_Escape.jpg ( 318.38K ) Number of downloads: 2

edit: Josh, yeah a couple. I use a hexagonal bursh with low spacing for all my painting, and the smoke and fire are just sampled from some google images of people's houses burning.
Some custom leaf brushes off the internet in this one, nothing special.
