Hello everyone

I've just had confirmed that five animations from the University of Hertfordshire are now on show at the World Expo in Shanghai biggrin.gif We are being shown in a programme of animations that includes work by some of Pixar's artists (Alma), films by director Peter Greenaway, also Alex Roman (Third and Seventh), Arev Manoukian (Nuit Blanche) and many other famous animators and directors. The World Expo is the world's largest exhibition, and is expecting to have 70million visitors! We are the only UK university represented in the programme.

The five chosen films are Funkphonic, World War, Powerless, Static and Adrift. Congratulations to the graduates who made them!

World War - 3D Animation @ University Of Hertfordshire 2008 from Digital Animation Herts Uni UK on Vimeo.

Powerless - 3D Animation @ University Of Hertfordshire 2009 from Digital Animation Herts Uni UK on Vimeo.

I didn't submit the films like I normally do for a festival; the people running the exhibit saw a couple of films of ours on Vimeo and asked if they could show them, we were invited to exhibit, even better than submitting! I then sent them links to a lot of our other work in case they liked it, and they chose more films smile.gif I still had to fill out the paperwork alas, and get the files to them in the way they wanted them (problems with downloading things in China I think*), but I think it should look good on everyone's CVs so it's definitely worth being shown there even though there isn't an actual competition or prizes. Many of the other exhibits (from ones I can find online) are multimedia art installations, but it's great to have UH work shown alongside films like Alma and Third and Seventh and Nuit Blanche, really nice to see completely independent festival organisers impressed with the quality of your work!

If I get some time later I'll post some links to some of the films that are being shown at the same time.

*If you ever need to share files with someone in China I found Dropbox public folder worked, but for some reason they couldn't download from Vimeo (even from a publicly available file) or from Rapidshare... of course it might just be something in the company firewall that stopped them.

Alas, Video is blocked by the great firewall of China. As is facebook, YouTube, half the results in Google image search etc. Lovely lovely autocracy.
